New main character

In about one day, BioWare is set to deliver Return to Ostagar, the first piece of downloadable content for Dragon Age: Origins, which will allow players to actually go back to the site of the catastrophic first battle in the campaign to find out more about the Darkspawn and retrieve the weapons and the armor of King Maric, who was killed then.

But recent signs show that BioWare might be getting ready to release a bigger chunk of content for its role playing experience, which got our Game of the Year Award, at some point during March.

The rumor arrives via the Eurogamer.cz website, which mentions the title of the expansion: The Awakening. They are also saying that the new content will be priced somewhere around 30 or 40 dollars and will be sold in stores as a separate package and bundled together with the original game.

Dragon Age: Origins will be required to play The Awakening and the new campaign that will be offered is set to be somewhat shorter than the one featuring the Grey Warden and will introduce players to a fresh character that will shape the game world. It's not clear whether the new story is tied in any way to the one offered in Dragon Age or whether any of the well known characters will be returning. BioWare will probably try to establish some links in order to get the attention of players who loved the original campaign.

The initial rumor only mentions The Awakening as coming to the PC, but the studio is probably also preparing versions of the expansion for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game. It's also not clear whether The Awakening will be offered as a digital download as well. BioWare and Electronic Arts are said to be preparing an official announcement for later in January.
