Electronic Arts might have confirmed that existence of Dead Space 3 via its recent financial results, but it was up to rumor mongers to reveal that the game might be ready to get an all new cooperative multiplayer mode that supports drop in and drop out.

Sources inside the company, probably working directly on Dead Space 3 at developer Visceral Games, has told IGN that the narrative of the core single-player and the new cooperative mode are pretty much identical, with the exception that two players take part in one of them.

Players can solve puzzles and get around obstacles by working together and they can also share their ammunition and their weapons.

A healing mechanics is also included in order to make sure that both get through the firefight without dying, mainly because it seems that Dead Space 3 lacks a revival mechanic.

The setting of Dead Space 3 is rumored to be an ice planet where main character Isaac clash lands following the events of the second game in the series, after struggling with his psychological problems.

It sees that when a friend is involved, the problems that the protagonist has with flashbacks and fracturing will be smaller, which might suggest that the companion himself is just a figment of his imagination, although one that can shoot and kill enemies.

The IGN source has also revealed more information about the core gameplay mechanics of Dead Space 3, saying that Isaac is now able to roll in order to avoid attacks and he can also take cover behind some of the scenery.

The set of powers he can use has been redesigned and there are also changes to the core weapons, with the Plasma Cutter apparently getting knockback on its secondary fire and the Pulse Rifle able to launch saw blades.

It seems that Isaac will also have to fight human enemies when Dead Space 3 launches, probably later in 2013.
