Assassin's Creed was one of the most innovative games of 2007, giving players a truly innovative freedom to move and to interact with other characters. In it, you played an assassin named Altair during one of the many crusades waged in the Middle East. Through ways traditional to killers and thieves you needed to find out information and take out your targets in order to stop the war.
The game went on to receive praise for its innovations, but the fact that you could only gather information by using three ways – either pickpocketing, eavesdropping or beating it out of your informer – meant that you would get bored pretty soon. But fortunately, the sword fights and the open environments were enough to keep you entertained.
Now, we've already heard Ubisoft confirm
the sequel to the game, but, sadly, no other details were made public, thus a wave of speculation appeared, with possible locations for the next game including Japan and France among other countries. But it now seems that thanks to a game tester who took part in a survey for
Ubisoft and decided to reveal information about it, we know that the game will take place in the Italian city of Venice, in the XVI century.
The tester revealed to Kotaku that the main character would be most likely named Ezio, and would play a big part in the family feud that took place in the Italian city. Aside from the classic assassin hidden blade, it seems that weapons powered by gun powder will make an appearance. Besides the new features, stealth will still play a huge role in gaming, as, most probably, the action will take place during the famous Venetian Carnival, where people wear masks.
After a brief trailer was presented to the testers, it seems that Ubisoft showed them a few images of the main character, but all of them had their faces partly covered, similar to the way which Altair wore his hooded garments. Free running moves will also appear in this game, as, because Venice is filled with water canals, running on the roofs of buildings will be the fastest way to escape pursuers.
In conclusion, it seems that things will be a lot different from the first Assassin's Creed, and we will get to see some new things added to the series. Hopefully we will get see the game revealed in the following months; until then, we can still play as Altair in the first title.
