The information is based on an anonymous tip, so we can’t confirm its legitimacy

Google unveiled the name of its next major Android version earlier this month but did not offer any additional info on its exact release date. The same goes for the next Nexus smartphone, which already leaked online a few days ago.

However, the folks over at AusDroid have it from an anonymous source that Google plans to officially unveil Android 4.4 KitKat operating system and the Nexus 5 on October 14.

Unfortunately, there’s no way that we can verify the information for the time being, so you should take it with a grain of salt. Aside from the supposedly Android 4.4 and Nexus 5 launch date, AusDroid's source also reveals some of the features that will be included in KitKat.

These may not be the only new features that will be part of Android 4.4 KitKat and some of them may not even make it to final release:

- Firmware availability to older phones; - Fragmentation changes (screen resizing); - Miracast updates; - New Gallery Visualisation; - New APIs regarding animations; - Change android default blue to other preset palette colours; - New notification widgets.

Although Android 4.4 KitKat is tagged as a major upgrade, we thought Google was going to bump Android to version 5.0, which was allegedly codenamed Key Lime Pie.

Given the fact that the list of features that are rumored to arrive along with Android 4.4 KitKat is pretty short, it appears that Google won’t offer a complete redesign of the operating system, which is not necessarily a bad thing.

It’s possible that Google did not have enough time to finish all work with Key Lime Pie by the end of the year, but still wanted to offer Android users something new that would keep them busy until the next major version got released. Stay tuned for more info on this one.
