It seems that the release window for
Alan Wake is getting ever narrower. Microsoft, set to handle publishing duties on the videogame, has already confirmed that it plans to launch the title sometime in the spring of next year and rumors are now saying that late May is the period when Alan Wake should arrive on store shelves.
MCV is quoting a source said to be close to the development process as revealing that late May is a good period because there are no other major titles to attract gamers.
Alan Wake is set to be an Xbox 360 exclusive and has been in development for quite a long time, with screenshots showing significant redesigns as the project progressed. The first gameplay demonstrations arrived this year at the E3 trade show. Microsoft has not confirmed the release date and is saying that it will not comment on any “rumor and speculation.”
The inside source is also claiming that the promotion campaign for Alan Wake will be “in the style of a Hollywood movie.” Remedy has already stated that the main elements of the game are in place and finished, and can reserve the time until May 2010 to polish up the experience.
Alan Wake is set to tell the story of a writer who retreats to a quiet little town in order to work on his next novel. All is good until his wife disappears and, while looking for her, he begins to see signs that the action of his novel seems to be seeping into reality. The gameplay will be built around exploration of various locales and combat based on sources of light, the only ones that can make the enemies in the game vulnerable. With Alan Wake completed, Remedy might actually go back to creating space sims in the vein of FreeSpace.
