Google has shown high interest for the opportunities of mobile technology for some time until now. The launch of mobile services is only the next step for taking their offers even further.

We already have the Google search engine as to provide fast and reliable results to any field of interest, shrunk to the size of the mobile phone's display screen. Moreover, Google has also introduced the mobile Gmail services in order to make it a great deal easier for people to access their email account from anywhere. Another service that Google has provided for all phone users out there is the News one which brings the latest worldwide information in real time.

All we can figure from this is that Google considers the mobile world an extremely fertile environment for development. With this in mind, many discussions have started debating whether this company will actually decide to launch as a mobile network operator sometime in the future. The source that started this rumor is supposed to be reliable, but nobody has revealed who it actually is and what its position might be in the whole picture.

It is said that Google will become a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) after signing a deal with UK mobile phone company O2. Moreover, there will be no stores for the service, or at least not in the classic meaning of the word. Signups and customer service will be provided through the Internet, on a website. Even more, all handsets will have the Google mobile software preloaded.

History has showed that it is usually more difficult for Mobile Virtual Network Operators to build themselves a customer base, but definitely not impossible. As proof for that, Virgin Mobile has managed to reach the number of 4 million subscribers since it has been launched.

We will see whether this rumor proves to be true or not. There is a high chance that it will not, but, on the other hand, who knows what surprises Google has prepared for us?
