Although China Telecom has yet to officially confirm the exact release date and price tag of the upcoming Nokia Lumia 800C, rumor has it that the carrier decided to slash the phone’s price ahead of launch.

According to the guys over at CNMO, China Telecom plans to increase the subsidy for Nokia Lumia 800C, which is expected to arrive in stores on March 28.

According to the latest hearsay, China Telecom will launch the Lumia 800C for only 3,899 yuan (615 USD or 470 EUR). It appears that Nokia’s initially-suggested retail price of 4,899 yuan (775 USD or 595 EUR) was a bit too much for the Chinese carrier.

In addition, China Telecom plans to attract more customers by offering the Nokia Lumia 800C with cheap monthly plans that can go for as low as 19 yuan (3 USD or 2.5 EUR).

Nokia has confirmed it will hold a special launch event in China on March 28, where the Finnish company is supposed to introduce more Windows Phone devices, including the Lumia 800C.

The bad news for Nokia is that the first Windows Phone smartphone to make it to China, the HTC Triumph (a rebranded HTC Titan), will be launched on March 14, two weeks earlier than Lumia 800C.

Nokia Lumia 800C is the first CDMA-enabled Windows Phone device launched by the Finnish handset maker. The smartphone is equipped with a single-core processor clocked at 1.4 GHz and packs an Adreno 205 GPU.

The phone comes with 16GB of internal memory and 512 MB of RAM inside, but lacks a microSD card slot for memory expansion. It boasts a hyper-vibrant 3.7-inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display that supports 480 x 800 pixels resolution.

An 8-megapixel rear camera with Carl Zeiss optics, autofocus, LED flash and HD (720p) video recording is available as well.
