As simple as it sounds, it seemingly conflicts with the rest of the input modes

One of the most burning issues regarding the iPhone's capabilities is of course the copy-paste function. Now don't go ballistic, there is no such feature available with your fancy Apple phone. Not yet, anyway. This SvenonTech piece, however, does hint at it coming pretty soon. According to the respective website, it was actually an Apple representative at Macworld who willingly spoke about why Copy/Paste is not yet available with the iPhone.

It begs the question: why would an Apple rep even start discussing this over a drink, or in some dark corner when MacWorld is there and happening? Nevertheless, since, according to the upper mentioned source, the feature is actively being developed, we can understand why an official unveiling wasn't in order either. Apple reps don't just hop on stage thinking how to blow anyone's mind away with all their futuristic ideas. The company opens its mouth only when it has a solid announcement to make, backed up by visual proof, too.

Still all we can do for the moment is go by the claim of Copy/Paste heading towards the iPhone. If anything, it's a probably just a nice dream, but one worth debating. Now, aren't you curious why it wasn't possible? Surely, many iPhone owners are already thinking that the zoom bubble won over the copy/paste implementation. That's a possibility alright, at least according to what SvenonTech has reportedly learned from Apple's insider:

"The trouble it is having is implementation. How to easily call up a copy or cut option and then the paste action," said the website. "It's probable that the zoom bubble (the one that brings up the edit cursor) is the issue, as it has removed the obvious tap and hold position from Apple to use for a pop-up menu of some sort. Text selection is another difficulty to sort out. Certainly, the cursor could be added to the menu selection; however, Apple wants to keep this as simple as possible and that added step would not lend itself to simple."

As noted above, Apple will most likely step into the spotlight when the time is right for them to make an official unveiling. Until then, iPhone users can only hope that this rumor reflects reality. But how about screenshots? Now, those would be something...
