Last night, ABC’s Dancing With the Stars crowned a new winner for season 20, and the celebrity taking home the mirrorball trophy wasn’t exactly a surprise. Rumer Willis and her pro partner Val Chmerkovskiy won over both the voting public and the judges.

You can see a video of the moment when the winners were announced below.

Rumer’s win brings everybody to tears

The final 3 were Rumer and Val, Riker Lynch and Allison Holker, and Noah Galloway and Sharna Burgess, and all couples performed flawless routines that brought the judges to tears.

In the end, though, it was up to the audience to decide who should go home with the much-coveted award; and the audience decided it should be Rumer. We should note that Val has been in the finals before, but this is the first time he wins top prize, so this was a very special night for him as well.

For the finals, Rumer got her entire family supporting her from the sidelines. The camera often panned to mother Demi Moore, who had been a fixture there throughout the season, and sisters Scout and Tallulah.

However, dad Bruce Willis and wife Emma Heming were also there. When Rumer’s name was called out as the winner, everybody started cheering and crying at the same time.

Rumer and her amazing journey

Doing Dancing With the Stars has been a very positive experience for Rumer and not just because she got to go home a winner. Throughout the season, she also opened up about her experience with being bullied and used her platform to send a message of love and acceptance.

Being the daughter of one of Hollywood’s golden couples wasn’t always easy on Rumer, she revealed a few weeks back.

Because both she and her sisters took after their famous father and they had strong jaws and his facial features, they would often come across very offensive things written about them online.

Rumer took it particularly hard, especially after her parents’ divorce, which sent her self-esteem at its lowest and made her question everything about herself.

She once said that agreeing to be on DWTS was her way of showing the world that she no longer cared what bullies had to say about her, because she wanted to do something for herself. She even chose to ignore Demi’s warnings, who would have wanted her to refuse just so she wouldn’t expose herself to more criticism.

At the end of the day, both mother and daughter must be very happy Rumer agreed to do the show.
