I admit I had to read this piece of news twice before it finally hit me. Rumer Willis, it seems, has managed to score big this time. The daughter of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore may not be much of a looker (OK, that may have been a little cruel - let's just go with "her head has a strange shape") but she sure is struggling to get the big world out there to notice her. I mean, I have a feeling she already fancies herself somewhat of a superstar, despite not having done that much in life so far. But since she's only 19, we forgive her.
As I was telling you, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) announced Rumer Willis as its selection as Miss Golden Globe for "The 65th Annual Golden Globe Awards" that will be telecast live on NBC on Sunday, January 13, 2008. HFPA President Jorge Camara made the announcement at a morning press conference. Traditionally, Miss Golden Globe, who assists in the Golden Globes ceremony, is the daughter of a well-known celebrity.
"We are delighted to have Rumer Willis join us to celebrate 'The 65 th Annual Golden Globe Awards. Since both of her parents have enjoyed successful entertainment careers in the acting profession, she is doubly qualified to serve as Miss Golden Globe", reads a HFPA statement.
There are several angles to this announcement. My favorite one is that both Bruce and Demi substantially emptied their bank accounts and offered someone some serious bribe in order to make Rumer happy - or at least to make sure she stops bitching around, at least for a while. Another possibility is that Rumer herself had a hand in this - if you know what I mean.
Or else there's always the possibility that she landed the job on pure talent, due to her good looks and fascinating personality. Yes, that could have happened too. Well, looking forward to having some good laughs...I mean, some fun at the ceremony. Our hopes are up, Rumer, so don't disappoint us please. Anyone cares to take some bets as to what her hair will look like by the time she goes up on the stage at the Globe ceremony? My bet is pink with lime-green highlights.
