Verizon has recently announced the upcoming availability of the HTC DROID Incredible 4G LTE Android phone for as low as $150 USD with a new two-year agreement.

However, customers who rely on messaging when it comes to communication and who want to purchase a cheaper phone can grab the newly announced Samsung Intensity III.

The messaging phone is available online starting today and will go on sale at Verizon’s brick and mortar stores in the following weeks.

Verizon customers who are willing to commit to a new two-year contract can grab the Samsung Intensity III for only $79.99 USD (65 EUR) after a $50 (40 EUR) mail-in rebate.

Samsung Intensity III is a ruggedized messaging phone that features a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard and is aimed at text message fans and social networking addicts.

According to Samsung, the Intensity III comes with a “durable and ruggedized design built to withstand wear and tear while also being made from 80% post-consumer materials, including recycled plastic extracted from water bottles or other recycled polycarbonate materials.”

In addition, the handset also offers users the possibility to keep track of their own carbon footprint thanks to the pre-installed eco-calculator app that tracks car fuel mileage, efficiency and also estimates the amount of carbon dioxide emissions.

The Intensity III sports a small 2.4-inch QVGA display that supports 240 x 320 pixels resolution and packs a sub-par 2-megapixel photo snapper on the back.

Furthermore, the slider comes pre-loaded with a full suite of messaging options, such as text, picture, video and messaging options. Support for 32GB microSD memory cards is available as well.

The phone also supports the Fake Call feature, enabling users to set up a pseudo-call to help them avoid unwanted social situations. There’s also the usual VZ Navigator app, allowing for audible turn-by-turn directions to lots of points of interest.
