Panasonic's been quite active today, releasing no less than four digital camera models, namely the ZS10 and ZS8, the FX78 and, last but certainly not least, the particular model you'll read about as follows, namely the ultra-rugged Lumix TS3 model. First and foremost, it's important to point out that the TS3 is touted as being waterproof, shockproof, freezeproof and dustproof, meaning that it's just the thing to take along when going on an adventure trip.

The device comes equipped with a 28mm wide-angle LEICA DC VARIO-ELMAR lens (folded optics design), with optical zoom up to 4.6x, accompanied by a 12.1-megapixel Hi-Speed CCD sensor able to deliver 1920 x 1080 full-HD AVCHD video recording and high speed continuous shooting, not to mention the new 3D Photo mode developed by Panasonic.

Moreover, the camera also packs a 2.7-inch, 230,000-dot Intelligent LCD screen with wide-viewing angle and Anti-Reflection coating, as well as a couple of new outdoor-friendly features, such as a built-in GPS function, a compass, altimeter and barometer.

"The LUMIX TS3 is Panasonic's 'take anywhere' digital camera – whether it is for carefree, everyday shooting with its easy-to-use features, high-quality lens and video capabilities, or for the active user who will appreciate the rugged design in any season – for activities such as hiking, skiing, camping, diving, snorkeling," said David Briganti, Senior Product Manager, Imaging, Panasonic Consumer Electronics Company.

"Last year's LUMIX TS2 was a highly-regarded rugged camera and with the TS3, we just built on its success with new features, like GPS, a compass, altimeter and barometer, making this the ultimate camera for the outdoor user," concluded Mr. Briganti.

The ultra-tough Lumix TS3 is slated to hit the shelves in March, but pricing for the new model, set to be available in red, orange, silver, and blue, is yet to be announced.
