The US government is going through a rough patch and this is not affecting only the development within American borders.

And with the government being put on hold, ruggedized PC shipments have experienced a delay and this trend is expected to impact overall performance for vendors in the Q4 of 2013, say sources from the upstream supply chain reported by DigiTimes.

Rugged device manufacturers have also started rolling out rugged tablets, on top of their usual notebook offerings.

At the moment Getac appears to be the all-American favorite, with 40% of its shipments originating in the country. Only 20% comes from Europe. In the United States, Getac has partnered up with HP, Synnex and CDC to help with the distribution.

Nevertheless, Panasonic remains the biggest ruggedized PC manufacturer, with 60% grip of the overall market. Getac comes in at number two.
