While consumer-oriented laptops don't put too strong an emphasis on resistance to physical trauma, rugged ones pay special heed to it, since they end up in less friendly work conditions, and Rugged Notebooks has just revealed its latest such machine, bearing the name of Eagle.

Rugged mobile computers are known for their more or less bulky frames that, in exchange for lacking in terms of aesthetics, confer a high degree of endurance upon the device.

The Eagle laptop from Rugged Notebooks is not exactly as rugged as other representatives of this product type, but still comes with a magnesium-alloy cover and resistance to drops of 2.5 feet.

In fact, the product was tested to MIL-STD-810F standards, which measure the degree of shock and spill resistance as well.

At its heart lies an Intel Pentium or Core 2 Duo central processing unit (CPU), depending on what customers want it for.

There is also a significant amount of memory involved, 8 GB to be exact, as well as Intel integrated graphics.

Furthermore, the product features a 14-inch screen with a resolution of either 1,280 x 800 pixels or 1,440 x 900 pixels.

As for storage, Rugged notebooks threw in the possibility of adding either one or two hard disk drives or solid state drives.

Of course, the PC maker made sure to add the full range of connectivity and I/O options, namely Gigabit Ethernet, WiFi, 3G, WiMAX and Bluetooth.

Other specifications include the obligatory spill-resistant keyboard, an optional touchscreen and either a 6-cell or 9-cell battery.

One can see the full information on the device by visiting the official product page that its maker has already set up on its website.

Finally, those interested in buying it will have to part with at least $1,695 and choose between Windows XP, Vista or 7.
