Although Motorola already launched another DEFY series smartphone, Android fans living in the UAE have been given the chance purchase one of the older rugged devices, the DEFY+.

According to Motorola, the DEFY+ is now available in the UAE via leading authorized resellers. Unfortunately, the company did not unveil the smartphone’s price tag.

Built on the success of the popular Motorola DEFY, the DEFY+ offers the same level of exceptional protection, but in a more powerful shell.

Aside from the fact that it’s water resistant, scratch resistant and features a dust proof design, Motorola DEFY+ also comes with an improved processor inside.

The 800 MHz single-core processor of the original Motorola DEFY, the DEFY+ is now equipped with a single-core processor clocked at 1 GHz, which is complemented by a PowerVR SGX530 graphics processing unit.

Motorola claims that the DEFY+ runs 25% faster than the original DEFY. In addition, the smartphone is powered by Google’s Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, which is an important step forward from DEFY’s Android 2.2 Froyo platform.

Motorola DEFY+ sports a 3.7-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports 480 x 854 pixels resolution, and features Corning Gorilla Glass coating for extra-protection.

On the inside, the smartphone embeds 2GB of internal memory, 512 MB of RAM, 1 GB of ROM and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB, 2GB memory card included).

There’s also a 5-megapixel rear photo snapper on the back, which features autofocus, LED flash and video recording.

Another strong point of the DEFY+ is the high-capacity 1700 mAh Li-Po battery, which is rated by the manufacturer for up to 384 hours of standby time or up to 7 hours of talk time.

With smartphones firmly established as essential, multi-purposing digital hubs, Middle Eastern consumers are looking for a handset that is not only capable of delivering a comprehensive range of entertainment and enterprise functionalities, but is also able to effectively withstand every-day wear and tear,” said Raed Hafez, managing director for Motorola Mobility, Middle East & Africa.
