Roy Keane may have ended his football career on the pitch, but he is certainly planning to make it big in the coaching zone as soon as possible. And what better way to start training than England. Of course, it's hard to coach a Premiership squad immediately, but England's 2nd League is not that bad also.
As UK media reports show right now, the former Manchester United star
is on the verge of signing a coaching deal with Sunderland. After failing to keep the pace with the Premiership last season, Niall Quinn's side also struggled this start of the season in the Carling Cup.
Sunderland lost to League Two side, Bury, and Quinn decided to step down from his job as team manager. Instead, he promised the fans that he will appoint a world-class technician in the next few weeks. But the Sunderland official settled for Keane, a totally inexperienced trainer, who will practically begin his coaching adventure on the Stadium of Lights.
Although he is yet to issue a statement concerning his future appointment as head coach, the English media already assured its readers that Keane agreed on the job.
As for Quinn, he wanted to explain his choice to the Sunderland fans: "To me he is world-class. I stand by that. We, at Sunderland, are close to getting a leading world football figure and we will support him 100 per cent".
If appointed, Keane will have a pretty tough job restoring some confidence into the Black Cats, since the team is currently bottom of the table, with 5 consecutive losses in the start of the season.
