Ireland's legendary captain, Roy Keane, decided to put an end to his football career. After an emotional "good-bye" to Manchester United fans less than two months ago, the former "devil" has taken the final decision concerning his future. One of the strongest reasons why he chose to retire was the doctors' opinion, that he would endanger his physical condition if he is to continue.

After more than a decade spent along the Man U fans, the Irish player decided to make a change in his football career last year. So he signed a one-year contract with Scottish champs Celtic Glasgow. After helping them to win another domestic championship - he was mostly sitting on the bench due to several injuries - he wanted to continue, but his feet felt different about it.

"Having received medical advice from my surgeon and the Celtic FC doctor, I feel my option is to retire. I would like to send the manager, the staff, the players and supporters my very best wishes for the future", said Keane earlier today.

His (now) former coach, Celtic's Gordon Strachan, had only great words to say about his captain: "Roy Keane is one of the greatest ever players to grace the game of football. It was fantastic that we were able to bring him to Celtic and it has been a privilege to work with him. Even in his short time with the club, Roy made a great contribution and played an important part in bringing success to the club last season. While we would have very much liked Roy to continue for the remainder of his contract, everyone at the club fully understands and respects the decision which he has made", said Strachan.

Celtic are now without two of their biggest assets. After letting John Hartson loose, they lost Roy Keane as well.
