14 DAY TRIAL // Angry Birds Christmas is coming as a free upgrade to the iPhone-exclusive Halloween Edition released by Rovio last month, the developer has confirmed via Twitter. Responding to a query, @RovioMobile said “it’s a free update to the Halloween game for iPhone and iPad.”
Angry Birds is a puzzle video game developed by Finnish development studio Rovio. Since its release for Apple's iOS platforms, over 10 million copies of the game have been purchased. The title was also made available for other touch-based smartphones.
Rovio’s $0.99 Angry Birds Halloween Edition was an iOS exclusive, as some of you may remember.
As such, those who’ve purchased this special edition of the addictive puzzle platformer can now upgrade to the Christmas Edition for free… as soon as Apple approves it.
According to Rovio’s Twitter feed, the binary has already been submitted to the Apple App Store Review Team.
To know what to expect, fans should remember that the special-edition Halloween game included 45 levels, which, according to Rovio, was three times more than regular updates.
Angry Birds Halloween required iOS 3.0 or later and was compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad.
An iPad-optimized version (Angry Birds Halloween HD) cost gamers $1.99. At the time the Halloween edition was introduced, Rovio confirmed that it would keep providing continuous free updates for Angry Birds.
Fortunately for Android users, Rovio has decided to lift iOS exclusivity off the add-on Christmas Angry Birds. They will be able to pop pigs side by side with iOS users this time around.
In related news, the company behind the immensely popular physics-based puzzle game recently confirmed plans for a sequel which, surprisingly enough, is said to feature a story told from the pigs’ perspective.
