A source with ABC claims that the producers are reaching out to the former host

After the massive firing that went down on The View last week, where everyone except Whoopi Goldberg was let go from the show, we find out that the producers are already making plans to revive the series by bringing back one of the more controversial hosts to sit behind the desk – Rosie O'Donnell.

A source is quoted as saying that the 52-year-old actress and comedian is being courted because she “has what it takes to add some controversy and drive the ratings up. The network executives really want Rosie back.”

This is not the first time O'Donnell has served as a co-host on the show, being part of The View team between September 2006 and May 2007. After she was let go from her job with the show, she had this to say: “My needs for the future just didn't dovetail with what ABC was able to offer me. They wanted me three years, I wanted one year and it just didn't work.”

Viewers expressed their displeasure with the current line-up of hosts for the current season and the blaming finger kept getting pointed at Jenny McCarthy, which is why the producers chose to let her go quietly.

By bringing back Rosie, the producers hope to revive that magic that the panel of hosts had on the show, which was basically responsible for more than half of the ratings points, if we're being honest.

Sherri Shepherd has also exited the show, but her announcement hinted more to a voluntary departure than to a brutal firing. “It's been seven wonderful years on ‘The View’ and after careful consideration it is time for me to move on,” she said in a statement.

There are other replacement names being floated around at the moment, but ABC's secretive policy of not revealing anything until the contract is signed is keeping the wool firmly covered from the audiences' eyes. ABC simply said that they were “not ready to make any announcements,” which could mean a lot of things at this point.
