When ABC confirmed that Rosie O’Donnell would return to The View with the new season, viewers were already making mental bets on how long it would take before she and old frenemy Whoopi Goldberg were at each other’s throats again. As it turns out, it didn’t take that long.

A member of the audience tells the Daily Mail of a taping that went really bad the other day, when Rosie, who refused to wear an ear piece, thought that Whoopi had cut her off mid-sentence when she announced that they would be going to commercial break.

The importance of the ear piece is not to be overlooked because, as Whoopi tried to explain to Rosie, had she worn one, she would have known what was happening – and implicitly, that they were going to break.

Rosie is trying to “run” the show, but Whoopi is having none of it

When the cameras were off, Rosie flew off the handle over what she perceived was direct disrespect towards her: she took the microphone usually reserved for engaging the audience (so as to make sure that everyone heard what she had to say, we assume), and spoke to Whoopi, telling her how “very upset” she was about what she’d done.

“This isn’t the time for this, Rosie,” her co-host on the show told her. Whoopi repeated this at least a couple more times, trying to get Rosie to lay off and thus prevent a scene. She had little success and lost her temper as well with the repeated tries, the eyewitness reveals.

“[expletive] it, I told you to leave it alone and you just don’t want to listen. If you want to go there Rosie, I will dammit. I’m really sick of your [expletive]!” Whoopi yelled, silencing both the entire audience and Rosie, who stopped trying to pick fights for the rest of the taping.

Still, Rosie plans to take over The View, as Barbara Walters’ replacement

Whoopi may have won the battle but she’s far from winning the war just yet. Word online has it that Rosie is back on the show because Barbara Walters personally sought her out and asked her to come back, thinking that she would one day replace her.

That’s still the plan, the report goes on to say: Whoopi still retains some control and can get Rosie to play along nicely, but all that’s about to end really soon. Backstage, everyone knows that Rosie is the “boss,” the Mail’s spy claims, describing her as “a terror from the get-go.”

“She has a definitive view of how she would like the show to go and wants everyone else to fall in line,” the tipster shares. Apparently, producers have already informed newcomers Rosie Perez and Nicolle Wallace of that, and they run everything by Rosie first.
