Fiery redhead Rose McGowan and famed director Robert Rodriguez became romantically involved in 2006 on the set of “Grindhouse.” Almost one year later, the two announced their engagement, refusing to make public a wedding date. Now, Radar Online reports that the two stars have decided to go their separate ways, calling off all plans for a future together.

The last time we heard of McGowan was when she announced she had been so badly injured, that shooting for her upcoming flick, “Red Sonja,” had to be indefinitely pushed back. She had just wrapped shooting for another Rodriguez film, the star-studded “Machete,” also starring Robert de Niro, Lindsay Lohan and Danny Trejo, among many others. Given that Rodriguez is also behind “Red Sonja,” it is not yet certain how the separation might affect the start date for the production.

“Rose McGowan has broken off her engagement to director Robert Rodriguez an inside source told Radar Online exclusively. […] Reps for the couple did not immediately respond for request to comment.” Radar writes of the latest development in the McGowan-Rodriguez relationship. As fans must know, when the two first went public with their romance, speculation had it the actress was the reason for Rodriguez’s decision to end his marriage of 16 years with producer Elizabeth Avellan, an allegation both firmly denied.

Other rumors that have plagued the couple ever since going public include the one where she was leeching on him to achieve the kind of fame she wanted. At the root of it was the fact that, after appearing as a couple on the red carpet, Rodriguez cast McGowan in many of his much-hyped productions. However, from what the actress was saying a while back, it seems that claim was without merit, as she professed to not be in the habit of taking anything for granted and working hard for her money, including doing her own stunts, which led to the injury that put a damper on shooting for “Red Sonja.”

“I had wrist and elbow surgery and they took part of my elbow out. I had really bad nerve damage from doing stunts – I do a lot of my own stunts. I could no longer use my arm, but now I can hold a fork and drive so we’re working our way up. It’ll probably be another six months of rehab, but it’s the price you pay for being really limber and being able to do back flips!” McGowan was saying at the beginning of September, as we also informed you.
