14 DAY TRIAL // About two weeks ago, Rolling Stones rocker Ronnie Wood, was arrested after allegedly attacking his much younger girlfriend Ekaterina Ivanova after a drunken row. She did not press charges at the time, refusing to even discuss the incident with the media. Back with a vengeance, the former waitress is now talking to Hello! magazine and saying that, in recent weeks, Wood had transformed into a drunken evil monster that she could not – and would not – help get back on track.
At first, their relationship was like a dream come true, a romance of the kind most girls can only dream of, Ekaterina says for the magazine, despite the age gap between them. When they moved in together, though, things started to change as it became more and more obvious that Wood had a serious issue with alcohol. Miss Ivanova too is a drinker, she admits, but at least she always knew when to stop, which was clearly not the case with the rocker.
“The whole thing started off like a fairy tale. But then it felt like an evil fairy tale. When Ronnie and I moved into a tower, my friends were laughing and saying I was like the princess trapped in the tower. He went all Jekyll and Hyde. I’d be trapped there with an evil Goblin King,” the former waitress says of how the affair evolved. Alcohol was usually at the root of all problems, with the aging rocker often ingesting so much of it that he would be left in a state in which he could barely speak, his former girlfriend reveals.
“On the day of my birthday, he woke me up with champagne and caviar, but the thing is I had a couple of glasses and Ronnie carried on drinking. We went to a restaurant that he’d booked, and they brought out a really beautiful cake and all the waiters were singing ‘happy birthday,’ and he was so drunk it was really awkward. I just don’t think he could handle it [drinking] so well. Even if he wasn’t nasty, he would start repeating the same jokes and I found them really irritating,” Miss Ivanova explains.
As we also reported at the time, the incident that ended the much mediated relationship came about as Miss Ivanova told an intoxicated Wood that she wanted out of the relationship. According to reports, the rocker got so upset that he became violent towards her, with some witnesses saying that, at one point, he was even dragging her by the hair down the street and then tried to choke her. Ekaterina did not press assault charges against him – instead, she moved out of the house and back with her mother, and started negotiating with the media for a tell-all interview.
