Rondo of Swords, or as it is known in Japan, Rondo of Deception, is a role playing game with strategy elements developed by Success and published by Atlus for Nintendo's hugely successful DS handheld console. Released in Japan on August 9, 2007 and in North America on April 15 the following year, the game went on to sell quite a lot of copies and be well received by critics and fans alike.
Rondo of Swords sees its action unfold in the land of Bretwalde, whose king died and left the whole country in a political turmoil as a lot of people are battling in order to take over the reigns of the glorious land. Bretwalde is attacked by the nearby kingdom of Egvard, and it eventually falls. In order to restore it to its former glory, its citizens are now seeking out a sacred blade that is rumored to save them.
Here are some of the key features of Rondo of Swords, as published by Atlus when it announced the video game:
Combat system: Route maneuver system lets you hit multiple enemies in your path
Party management: Errand system gives you the ability to send party members to complete tasks and level up independently
Customizable skills: Use skill points to make strategic leveling decisions
Multiple storylines and endings: In-game decisions determine how the game ends.
The game went on to be praised for the features it does different from the variety of other tactical RPGs that have flooded the Nintendo DS ever since its release. But while it did manage to offer a great experience to players, a lot of reviewers have cited its hard difficulty coupled with the steep learning curve to be a turn-off for a lot of casual gamers who bought it for their own amusement.
