A man who has survived a surreal attack in which he has had the majority of his face chewed off has made a video thanking supporters for their help.

*User discretion is advised as the clip contains images which viewers may find disturbing.  "People in my predicament need to be helped out. [...] I thank the outpouring of people in the community. I'll always be grateful for that, he says."

Ronald Poppo tells ABC News how, in the year following the attack, he has learned how to play guitar and he has also gained 50 pounds.

He has been cared for at the Jackson Memorial Perdue Medical Center in Culter Bay, Florida ever since. Poppo lost his eyes complete with his eyeballs when he was assaulted by a man who has consumed drugs.

In May 2012, Rudy Eugene immobilized him and consumed his eyes, nose, mouth and three quarters of the skin on his face.

"His main issue is blindness, having to adapt to his surroundings without being able to see," Dr. Wrood Kassira with the Jackson Memorial Hospital mentions.

Other than that, Poppo has asked for only basic reconstruction surgery. He will not be replacing his eye balls with artificial ones or putting on any type of prostheses.
