Two of the most sacred names in the game design business, Tim Schafer and Ron Gilbert, have been reunited, with the latter officially being employed by Schafer's own studio, Double Fine Productions.

The two designers have worked together before, at LucasArts, and were responsible for the critically acclaimed Secret of Monkey Island adventure franchise.

Schafer has already put out multiple titles, including Psychonauts and the more recent Brutal Legend, while Gilbert has just completed two DeathSpank titles that were released as downloadable games for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

When interviewed by Kotaku, the two game designers showcased their famous sense of humor, and detailed their new collaboration.

Gilbert, when asked what his position at Double Fine will be answered that: "We haven't really talked about that. I'm the boss of Tim."

Schafer added: "He's the official Ron Gilbert. Though he started out as vice Ron Gilbert, we want to make sure he works out."

They both revealed that Gilbert had been working out of the Double Fine studios for the last couple of months, and had brainstorming sessions with Schafer and his team.

This led to a job proposal from Schafer, and Gilbert approached it, in order to start working on a brand new game.

"For the last couple of months Tim has been loaning me his desk here, as he has in the past," Gilbert said. "We have just been talking about different ideas I've had for games, kinda going back and forth like we do, and then Tim suggested, 'Hey why don't you come here and build this thing.' It kind of sounded like a good idea."

According to Gilbert, the game will be a completely new idea, and has already been worked on for a few months.

"It's an idea that I've been batting around for many, many years. I've been talking to Tim over the last couple of months about it and it sort of percolated back up. It's very different than DeathSpank, it's a bit of a departure from that. It's going in a very interesting direction. Fans of those old adventure games will like it."

So there you have it, Ron Gilbert and Tim Schafer will once again work together on a new game, and even though we don't know what the title will be, it will certainly be a breath of fresh air.
