Young Lewis Hamilton's thoughts of competing in Formula One are getting stronger and stronger. After being praised by Martin Whitmarsh, one of McLaren's most important officials, Hamilton can't stop asking for more. Even if he only ran for 6 races in the current GP2 series -managing 2 wins - he is very keen of working with Ron Dennis as soon as possible.
"Hopefully it's just a continuation of my success and my drive to get to Formula One. As I've told you time and time again I'm working my arse off not only to do the best job possible, but also to get that seat at McLaren. I really want that, and it's an opportunity that not many people get", admitted the British driver.
He continued, saying: "If I can get that seat then I think, and I feel very confident, that I can make the best use of it. That's what I'm working for, and to have a result like this it looks really good on my CV. There are a lot of people watching and I think I got a lot more fans this weekend".
Still, even if he has Whitmarsh's full support - and Bernie Ecclestone's too, as it seems - Hamilton did not fully impress Ron Dennis yet, at least not in the way that would bring him to McLaren this season. "There will be one, two, three years of coming to grips with F1. So what we will try to do is prepare him best for that first year, to ensure he is more competitive in his first F1 season than any other driver that has come to it", said the McLaren boss.
Some really great performances, especially the most recent, in Silverstone, have brought Hamilton closer and closer to signing a full-time contract with McLaren. Still, unless the situation of the current drivers will not be clarified, there is no telling on when he could make his debut in the Great Circle.
