The next game from The Creative Assembly might be a Rome 2: Total War, a re-interpretation of the third game in the long-running series using a new engine and a set of new mechanics.

A teaser image showing the original game and a prominent “II” was spotted in the PC PowerPlay magazine Australia for July.

The Creative Assembly has not offered any comment on the rumored existence of Rome 2: Total War.

The strategy game was the first in the Total War series to use a 3D overland map and allow gamers to choose a path through the game world for their armies, expanding the tactical possibilities.

Some were disappointed with the changes that Rome introduced at first, but since then the game has become a darling of the community and has been the platform for the development of a number of very solid mods, including the spectacular Europa Barbarorum.
