Rolling Stone editor comes to Justin Bieber’s defense: his answers were “solid and logical”

The other day, Rolling Stone magazine came out with a brand new interview with Justin Bieber, “Super Boy,” in which he tackled topics he’d never been asked about before, like health care, politics and abortion.

The pop star initially said that he didn’t believe in abortion because, to him, it was still murder because a baby was being killed.

The interviewer then asked him if he felt the same about women who chose to have the procedure after getting pregnant as a result of abuse, and Bieber’s response seemed to say that the abuse was also part of God’s plan.

“Um. Well, I think that’s really sad, but everything happens for a reason. I guess I haven’t been in that position, so I wouldn’t be able to judge that,” were Justin’s exact words.

Following some harsh remarks online that he shouldn’t speak of such things – at least not in these terms – Rolling Stone editor Vanessa Grigoriadis is coming to Justin’s defense, saying there’s really nothing to be outraged about.

In a statement to PopEater, Grigoriadis says that there’s nothing to criticize about as regards Justin’s comment because he really didn’t mean to imply that an experience as traumatic as abuse happened “for a reason.”

“I think he meant that God has a plan. Even for the most die-hard Christian, it’s hard to justify [abuse] as part of God’s plan, and harder to justify [abuse] that leads to pregnancy and abortion,” Grigoriadis says.

“I think he was wrestling with that in his answer, which I found to be solid and logical. I think it is being widely misunderstood. He did not say that [it] was part of God’s plan,” the editor adds.

She was also very impressed by how mature Bieber appears to be where certain topics are concerned. Like his manager, she believes him to be older than his age in many respects, the above being one of them.

“[His manager] Scooter Braun was right when he said to me that Justin sometimes seems like a 16-year-old going on 14 and other times like a 16-year-old going on 32,” Grigoriadis says.
