While the world of photography accessories is a pretty vast one, it really seems that certain companies don't have any problems in “adopting” or “borrowing” ideas from their competitors, this being the case with Rollei's Flexipod 100 camera tripod, which takes a lot after yet another famous flexible mounting solution, the Gorillapod from Joby.

According to PhotographyBlog, the new Flexipod 100 from Rollei is a flexible camera tripod featuring rubber legs, which can be bent and rotated through 360 degrees, thus allowing users to place it on just about any surface, and even attach it to certain objects.

Furthermore, as Rollei informs us, the Flexipod 100 is especially suitable for nighttime and time-lapse shots, as well as family portraits using a self-timer function in one's own living room.

Portrait, landscape and macro shots are also quite easy to take, thanks to the small clamp mounts, which can even be used to attach the tripod to a tree.

Its compact size of 200 x 40 x 40 mm and a weight of just 102 grams also make it easy to transport and stow.

In terms of compatibility, Rollei points out that compact cameras and mini camcorders with a weight of up to 800 g can be attached to the quick release plate with a 1/4-inch tripod socket.

While many of you might in fact consider the Flexipod to be quite an interesting product, those of you familiar with the Gorillapod will immediately spot the rather high level of resemblance between the two products.

Even the pricing of the Rollei Flexipod 100 and the Joby Gorillapod is actually quite similar, the flexible tripod from Rollei selling for around 15 Euro when it will be available in stores at the end of January (in pink, blue, red, green and grey), while the Gorillapod sells for around 20 US dollars.
