Lady Gaga not only got to hold the headlines so far for her music but also thanks to her outrageous outfits and the almost unbelievably unique combinations of items, futuristic headwear and thigh-high boots. Because of this, she was always held as a pioneer of a new trend, a deadly combination of old elements with unlikely pieces. The trouble is now that she did not come up with it, Irish singer Roisin Murphy says, as quoted by the Daily Express.

Murphy is telling the British media that Lady Gaga, as shocking and original as she might seem as regards her fashion choices, is nothing but a cheap imitator. The Irish singer met the “Poker Face” hitmaker a little more than a year ago, before Gaga was even as famous as she is today, and it’s very likely that she found a bit too much inspiration from Murphy’s outlandish outfits, the Irish star believes.

“She’s copied my style. I met her about a year ago before she got really big and I had no clue that this was all going to happen. She wasn’t wearing shoulder pads at the time, and I was. Lady Gaga is just a poor imitation of me. She has copied my style, she took my shoulder pads and all that. Mind you she doesn’t wear the bottom half!” the former Moloko frontman says for the British media. In all fairness, several publications point out, the resemblance between Murphy and Gaga’s style is more than striking.

Speaking of style, earlier this year, Lady Gaga was speaking out on one of the biggest misconceptions about her, namely that she was simply putting up an act to cause a stir and, this way, get more media attention and make more money. She dressed the way she did because only that was totally in tune with her personality, the singer was saying at the time, which also meant that, when she took the clothes off and removed the makeup, she was still Gaga and not somebody else because what fans got to see on stage was the real deal and not make-believe.

“The biggest misconception about me is I’m a character or a persona. That when the lights and cameras turn off, I turn into a pumpkin. It’s simply not true. I make music and art and design all day long. Yes, I wash my face and go to sleep but when I wake up, I am always Lady Gaga.” Gaga was saying at the time. As of now, she has not yet responded to Murphy’s allegations of “stealing” her style.
