Hopefully this will be the last article about Benoit.

This is so messed up. I actually wish I didn't cover this particular story because entertainment should never have anything to do with death, murder and such misfortunate events. But this is something that we embarked upon and we'll see it through.

You are more than aware that on June 22 Benoit killed his wife and their 7-year-old son, and then killed himself. I also believe that you agree that if he felt the urge to kill, the WWE wrestler should have started with him first. But now we are almost certain why all this happened. And the answer is: lots and lots of steroids.

The investigators found plenty of anabolic steroids in Benoit's home, so we know he was on steroids. We also know the proven fact that steroids abuse leads to paranoia, depression and most important, violent outbursts which are better known as "roid rage". The toxicology tests on Benoit's body are not yet fully completed. That means that we do not know the amount of steroids he injected himself prior to the murders. But we have a pretty good idea about how much he could have taken until then.

Benoit had a very good friend, doctor Phil Astin. To put it simple, Astin was the one who prescribed Benoit his steroids. And here comes the truly shocking part: according to the investigation report, from May 2006 to May 2007, Astin prescribed Benoit "a 10-month supply of anabolic steroids every three to four weeks". Now that's one hell of a roid rage right there. I have heard of malpractice but this is ridiculous.

Chris Benoit went to Astin's office the same day he killed his family. When asked what he prescribed Benoit on that particular occasion, Astin refused to answer. Needless to say, the "good" doctor is now under arrest.

We don't want to speak ill of the dead, but if Chris Benoit was foolish enough to take those huge amounts of steroids, he should have been the only one to pay the price. The true tragedy is that he took two innocent souls along with him.
