The Oscar-winning actress (for Best Supporting Actress in 'The Piano', 1993), known for her part as Rogue in the sci-fi comic book-inspired film, 'X Men', will star in an original HBO production, next to Aidan Quinn.
'Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee' tells the story of the American Indians in the second half of the 19th century and of the way they were displaced by the American expansion to the west. The entire plot will revolve around Anna's reality-based character, Elaine Goodale Eastman.
She was one of the prominent figures of the American Indian culture, a novelist, poet, journalist, editor, schoolteacher and activist, who participated in the movement for the acknowledgment of American Indian rights, following the 1890 Wounded Knee massacre.
Filming for 'Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee' will begin this month in Canada, under the direction of Yves Simoneau (who also directed the 'Marie Antoinette' miniseries). The Daniel Giat script is based on the original novel of Dee Brown. Dick Wolf ('Law & Order') and Tom Thayer will executive produce.
Until then, Anna Paquin can also be seen in 'Margaret' (directed by Kenneth Lonergan) and 'Blue State' (Marshall Lewy), which the actress co-produced with her brother and will be released in 2007.
