Canadian mobile phone carrier Rogers Wireless announced today the commercial availability of its High Speed Packet Access Plus (HSPA+) network in five of the country’s largest cities, including Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal. According to the company, the new network is able to deliver maximum speeds of 21 Megabits per second (Mbps), and can be accessed via the new 21 Mbps HSPA+ Rocket Mobile Internet Stick, which is available for pre-order starting today on the carrier's website.

“With Rogers 21 Mbps HSPA+ network, customers in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal are the first in North America to experience the fastest world-class wireless speeds,” said John Boynton, Chief Marketing Officer and Senior Vice President, Rogers Wireless. “Rogers continues to remain at the forefront of offering Canadians the most innovative mobile technologies and first-to-market products, including the new Rogers Rocket Mobile Internet Stick that lets consumers enjoy mobile Internet access across Canada's fastest wireless network just as conveniently as you use your wireless phone.”

The deployment of Rogers' 21 Mbps HSPA+ wireless kicked off earlier this year, the carrier stated, while also adding that the download speeds it can deliver are three times faster than before. The carrier plans on extending the new HSPA+ during the following months so that users in more cities around the country can benefit from its features. More details on the new 21 Mbps HSPA+ network can be found here.

The new 21 Mbps HSPA+ Rocket Mobile Internet Stick will offer Canadian mobile phone users the possibility to access the carrier's network, and should deliver speeds that match those offered only bywired networks at the moment. The fresh device comes with a USB connection so that it can be used with any laptop or PC. It does not require any installation CD and works both on Windows-based computers and on systems powered by Mac OS. The stick has an integrated antenna, and also sports a series of LEDs that indicate the connection status. According to Rogers, Canadian users can acquire the new HSPA+ Rocket Mobile Internet Stick for only $74.99 on its website.
