Canadian wireless carrier Rogers has finally made available for purchase its own version of Samsung Galaxy S, the high-end Android-based device from Samsung, dubbed Galaxy S Captivate. Following a long period of pre-order availability, the handset is now available for purchase on the carrier's airwaves.

This is the second Galaxy S model to be launched in Canada, following the availability of Galaxy S Vibrant on Bell's network ever since August (Rogers announced its Galaxy S Captivate on August 4th, the same day Bell launched its version of the device).

The price tag for the new device was set at $179.99 upon the signing of a new three-year contract agreement with the wireless carrier.

However, Rogers customers looking for an upgrade should be able to get the phone for only $149.99, an offer that would last until November 2nd.

Those who would be more interested in purchasing the new device free of contract would have to pay $549.99 for it.

The handset sports a large 4-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen display, a 1GHz application processor inside, a 5MP camera on the back, and enhanced connectivity features.

With email, messaging, social networking and Internet browsing capabilities, the Galaxy S Captivate can offer all the features one would ask from an Android 2.1-based device.

Moreover, the phone is set to receive an upgrade to Android 2.2 in early 2011, at least this is what Rogers announced officially not too long ago.

This is one detail that remains to be clarified, as Samsung announced not too long ago the release of Android 2.2 Froyo for all of its Galaxy S devices out there.

Until more info on the matter emerges, one should hurry up with the purchase of a Galaxy S Captivate from Rogers, as the carrier says it has “limited supply of inventory.”

Those interested in the new device should head over to the wireless carrier's website here to make a purchase.
