Canadian customers who for various reasons don’t own a Windows Phone 8 device manufactured by Nokia will be happy to know HTC 8X is now getting the hotly anticipated Portico update.

MobileSyrup reports that Rogers customers who own the HTC 8X have already started to receive the OS 8.0.10211.204 update OTA (over the air).

It looks like Rogers is one of the first Canadian carriers to offer this Windows Phone 8 update to HTC 8X users, but we expect other operators to follow soon.

According to Microsoft, the main changes included in this major update are related to messaging, Wi-Fi connectivity and Internet browsing.

Thanks to the new Windows Phone 8 update, the HTC 8X devices will now prioritize Wi-Fi connections based on user’s connection history.

Several Internet Explorer enhancements have been added as well, so users will now be able to change their settings to prevent pictures from downloading automatically. This is an easy way to help keep data usage low.

It is also worth mentioning that users can now delete selected sites from their browsing history and leave the rest intact.

When it comes to messaging, Portico brings important improvements that are meant to offer a smoother messaging experience to Windows Phone 8 users.

For example, users will finally be able to add multiple recipients at the same time when they send a text message, as well as automatically save unsent text messages as drafts.

There’s more to it, as the update offers users the option to edit received text messages before they forward them to their contacts.

Windows Phone 8 Portico also adds a new function that allows users to reply via SMS to any incoming call. In other words, they will now be able to send a prewritten text reply to a caller directly from the call answer screen.
