Rod Stewart has been ordered to pay a casino more than $3 million for not returning an advance he was paid before canceling a concert in 2000.
Larry Hicks, a US district judge, ordered the singer's lawyers to pay an additional $153,483 in contempt of court sanctions and legal costs for failing to turn over information to lawyers for Harrah's Entertainment, the largest casino operator in the world, before trial last year.
Stewart's lawyer in Los Angeles, Louis "Skip" Miller, said Stewart intends to appeal against the verdict but refused to comment further.
Judge Hicks' order included the $2 million advance he was paid by the Rio hotel-casino and more than $1 million in interest, penalties and legal fees.
