There's quite a bit of swearing

Rockstar is pushing the envelope on the Wild West theme with Red Dead Redemption, with co founder Dan Houser saying that the developer plans to include a lot of “blood and gore and gruesomeness” in the upcoming game created for the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3.

Houser talked to IGN about the game and said that “We didn't want it to feel like those old Saturday afternoon TV shows, matinee movie Westerns where people kind of get shot and crumble and die very quickly, very carefully off-camera. We didn't want it to feel like Little House on the Prairie.”

Red Dead Redemption is set to follow the adventures of one John Marston, who is trying to give up a life of crime as a bank robber but finds out that the whole world is pushing against his choices. The action takes place in the southern states of the US and in Mexico, across three different areas, with a central story line that can be pursued while also taking up a wide variety of side missions, in true Grand Theft Auto IV style.

Apparently, there will be some riding as well, but Houser says that the movement bits will be fun in their own and if anything goes wrong, a checkpoint system will allow players to skip certain sections they have already done.

Side activities will involve “Five Finger Filet, drinking, card playing, fighting and running in a posse” and everything the player does will influence the world around him/her while also having an impact on his/her fame and level wanted. You will not be able to go in guns blazing, because various characters and even the army might come after you if you display levels of violence that are not called for.

Houser also promises a significant twist towards the end of Red Dead Redemption and a lot of good dialogue to push the story along. The game is set to arrive sometime during fall.
