Parents and lifestyles determine the future of a player

Leslie Benzies, the leader of the Rockstar North studio, says that his team tried to eliminate all video game conventions when making the character creation system for the upcoming GTA Online.

The game maker believes that gamers are more interested in getting access to interesting combinations of features than in controlling minutiae.

Leslie Benzies is quoted by The Escapist as saying that, “I've always felt character creators in games to be a bit wacky - pulling the ears and noses to change the way they look seems wrong. That's not how humans are made in the real world.”

In order to replicate that process, Rockstar has decided to allow players to select parents and grandparents and then see exactly how their genes combine.

A lifestyle is then used to determine the starting skills of any character in GTA Online.

The multiplayer mode will be launched on October 1, two weeks after GTA V is out on the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360.
