Music games are extremely popular these days, thanks to the fact that they appeal to a big number of gamers, making the developers and publishers of such titles very rich. As such, a lot of other companies have begun to wonder how they can associate with franchises like
Rock Band or Guitar Hero and have a share of this profit.
In the latest example of such an
endeavor, Pepsi and MTV Games have just announced that the Drink Up, Rock Out promotion will start on June 2 and will offer Rock Band players and fans the opportunity to win some very interesting prizes, starting from DLC music tracks to the possibility of winning an MTV Video Music Awards Moonman.
First of all, the promotion, which will start on June 2, will consist of gamers having to buy specially marked bottles of Pepsi and other products from the soft-drink manufacturer, and look under the cap, where a code for a DLC track for the Rock Band games might be engraved. Those who find such codes can go to this
website and enter the code in order to reclaim their wins. During the promotion, the two companies will offer a Rock Band 2 Special Edition bundle every hour and, every week, sweepstakes will be organized for a chance of winning a tip to properties from Harrah Entertainment, Xbox 360 consoles and other prizes.
Christina Glorioso, vice president, Marketing Partnerships for MTV Games revealed, “Pepsi is continuing their long standing tradition of being on the forefront of music with the decision to partner with Rock Band, the genre-defining music game platform that allows music fans and gamers to interact with and discover music like never before. This campaign has something for every Pepsi consumer from those that love to rock to the fans that love to cheer on their favorite bands.”
But the most interesting part of this promotion is the fact that Rock Band groups that want to seek fame can choose a song from this
website and upload a video of them playing it on the
competition site. This special contest will start on June 2 and end on July 28. After that, from August 8 to September 1, fans will vote for their favorite band and the winner will attend the MTV Video Music Awards and walk away with a Moonman prize. Also, those who hurry and upload a video on June 2 might be selected to go to Los Angeles and be the booth band for the Harmonix stand at E3.
Overall, this is a very appealing promotion that will get a lot of people interested. Until June 2, brush up on your Rock Band skills and save up your money for Pepsi bottles.
