Hit the drums softer, or turn the TV up - what'll it be?

When the multitude of peripherals used in Rock Band was first revealed, the gaming world went crazy. The discrepancy between Guitar Hero and Rock band seems almost as with the 8 bit version of Mario and BioShock. But is it really like this...? Recent gameplay footage released over the Internet reveals that Rock Band may have quite a few minuses as well. One which is most observable in the video below is the dreadful sound some of the game's peripherals make when playing the game.

Rock Band is known for allowing gamers to use a mic, a set of drums and an additional guitar (for a second guitarist of course) turning you and your friends in... well, what the game is called - a "Rock Band." However, real rock bands don't have to worry about neighbors hitting the ceiling with a broom-stick every time they hit the drums and scream into the mic. Rock Band gamers, on the other hand, do.

In the video you see below, available courtesy of GameVideos.com, you will notice that even though the volume on the TV is quite high, hitting the drums still produces an annoying sound. Now, if you'll be so kind as to imagine this...

You're at home with your friends ready to have some good Rock Band fun, right? As you live in a flat, you'll have to keep the whole experience at a normal level, as far as the volume is concerned. And... you start hitting the drums - Bang, boom, badabam bam bom. But the drums are too noisy, annoying both your neighbors and your girlfriends who are also present and watching your performance like true groupies. No worries, just turn the volume up on the TV set! Oh, but now the volume is at such a high level that your neighbors are getting really pissed-off. Oh, and since rock music means screaming in the mic like crazy (sometimes)... Well, you get the point.

You can't have a good gameplay experience at a low volume level with music games, that's for sure, and you can't hit those drums softer either, that's damn clear. So while your girlfriends can't go on gossiping about what they did last summer at band camp (inspired by the peripherals), you and your friends can't have a good gameplay experience with what was supposed to be the bomb of the century as far as video games are concerned.

So you see, there's really no escaping noise with Rock Band. However, if anyone should ask the game's developer/publisher about this, they'll have a very easy explanation for it. They'll probably say: "We wanted to turn gamers into a real rock band. You can't have a whispering rock band, now can you?" or something like that...
