The development team at Harmonix is celebrating the end of support for its Rock Band series by announcing that 130 million songs have been downloaded for the various games in the franchise by the player community.

The team also uses its PAX East panel to show off the plans it had for Rock Band, including video game experience built around bands like Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and Pearl Jam.

A representative of the studio tells Gamespot that, “The images referenced were created by Harmonix as proposals for potential titles about those artists. No partnership with Pink Floyd or Led Zeppelin was ever formalized, and those two titles were never in actual development.”

The Pearl Jam video game was in development during 2009, but it was canceled as the music game genre started to collapse.

The Pink Floyd title was set to use the psychedelic visuals that the band was known for, while the Led Zeppelin game would have used a more traditional Rock Band structure.

Harmonix managed to get access to The Beatles back catalog in order to create a Rock Band experience that used visuals and sounds to evoke the spirit of the band.

American Pie is the last piece of DLC for Rock Band and it will be offered on April 2, sung by Don McLean.

Harmonix has launched 4,254 songs for its music franchise, taken from 1,657 bands.

It seems that, at the moment, the company has no plans for more installments in the Rock Band franchise.

It is also suspending DLC support for Dance Central in order to focus on projects that are linked to next-generation consoles.

Harmonix has been able to use motion tracking in innovative ways, which only a limited number of companies have managed. Rumors suggest that the company is working with Microsoft on a new game for the Xbox 720.
