Rock Band 3 will include pitch detection and pitch shifting technology, according to a licensing deal between the game's developer, Harmonix, and the creator of the tech, iZotope. This will expand the vocal options the title offers, allowing players to use various voice effects during their living room performances.

iZotope's middleware enables not only the quiet popular vocal effects that are to be found in every genre in today's music industry, but also solves the problem of incorrect singing because of the pitch correction technology. The game will literally eliminate out of key notes from the sounds that will be heard on the sound system in real time.

Eran Egozy, chief technical officer and co-founder of Harmonix, said that “The ability to have pitch correction in real-time helps to enhance the vocal gameplay and players' in-game performance in Rock Band. We're excited to feature iZotope's technology and this new middleware in Rock Band 3 so that our players can enjoy the type of vocal effects that professional rock stars utilize for live stage performances in their homes this holiday.”

Rock Band 3 is the latest rhythm game from Harmonix and MTV Games. The developer is promising that this new installment in the franchise will bring much awaited innovation for the genre. There will be an 83-song set list to choose tracks from, including music from names like Jane's Addiction, Jimi Hendrix, Whitesnake, Ozzy Osbourne or The Doors.

The title will include a fresh keyboard peripheral and a Rock Band Pro mode that will use real guitar controllers from legendary instrument maker Fender, three expansion cymbals for the drums, with the game being able to differentiate in a more realistic way between drum sounds and other additions.
