It has more onboard memory than most of its peers

Mice can be very interesting things when done right, and while we can't be sure if Roccat stumbled upon a winning formula with the Tyon, we can admit that they're probably onto something here.

Admittedly, the design might be somewhat on the daring side, with the no small number of angular buttons and the way they stick out.

It's also worth noting how there aren't any actual thumb buttons. Instead, you get something along the lines of an analog two-way stick, as well as two pairs of buttons, on the respective sides of the left and right click buttons.

To be specific, there are sixteen buttons in total on this mouse, including the middle finger-controlled one, all of which can be assigned different functions.

In fact, there are 31 distinct possible functions, all of them stored on board thanks to the integrated 567 kB of memory. Pretty huge compared to the 128 kB of other high-end mice (or less).

Some mice are tailored for specific types of games, but the Tyon is supposed to be perfect for all of them: strategies, RPGs, FPS, MMOs, all of them.

The programmability we mentioned before definitely plays a part in this description. Roccat raised the stakes, though, by conducting many hours of tests on the mouse, and with the mouse.

According to the company's press release, the hours that gaming experts spent playing, fine-tuning and logging their use of the mouse number in the hundreds.

Then there's the Easy-Shift[+] Button, which lets you change between pre-programmed button functions on the fly.

The peripheral is still optimized for FPS games, but testers reportedly said it was a very good option for MMOs as well. The mid-finger two-click button even makes it less necessary for you to readjust your grip when trying to access macros or shortcuts while playing WoW or whatever else.

Availability and pricing

The Roccat Tyon gaming mouse is colored black or white and boasts a RGBY two-part illumination system (you can select two different colors for the lower rim and wheel, from 16.8 million choices). It should be up for sale soon, if it isn't already, for the price of €99.90 / $99.90. The sensitivity is of 8200 DPI in all cases.

A pretty high price really, but you shouldn't need to change the mouse for many years once you've bought it. Besides, most alternatives are going to cost around the same sum.
