Hollywood and the gaming industry have developed a very strong relationship, as more and more movies are getting a video game adaptation and vice versa, hoping to generate further profit for the companies involved.
Robots is such a property, which has received a video game treatment in order to coincide with the theatrical release of the movie back in 2005. Created by Eurocom and published by the now defunct Vivendi, Robots appeared on a variety of platforms, including the PlayStation 2, the Xbox, the GameCube, the Game Boy Advance, the PC and, most importantly, on the Nintendo DS.
The game tells the story of a great inventor named Rodney Copperbottom, as he moves to the big city in order to work for the company founded by his childhood hero and invent new and interesting things. But when Rodney discovers a plot to take over the city, he must put an end to it before the city is doomed.
“We have captured all of the fun, excitement, playful humor and visually engaging qualities of Robots in a video game that will appeal to kids and fans of the animated feature everywhere,” said Philip W. O'Neil, President of North America, Vivendi Universal Games. “Our multi-platform game will continue the excitement of what is sure to be the movie event of the Winter/Spring 2005.”
All in all, Robots provided a pretty interesting experience and was well received by both critics and fans, who were very intrigued to take the action that they saw at the cinema into their own hands through the use of their favorite gaming platform.
