Passionate about robotics development? Are you at least curious to see what Microsoft Robotics Developer Studio 2008 R2 is all about, if not even tempted to give it a try? Well, Microsoft has just the right content to grow that interest. The Redmond company has already published a series of videos on robotics development on YouTube and made them available to the public. Obviously, the target audience is developers already familiar with C#, but the fact of the matter is that anyone can watch the videos. You never know, maybe the content will spark some robotics inspiration. If that is the case then by all means, Visual Studio and Microsoft Robotics Developer Studio 2008 are but a download away.

“A series of introductory videos about RDS is being released over the coming weeks. These are intended to be short (about 5 minutes) and cover topics that will help you to get started using RDS. The first video is in three parts and shows how to create a new service in C# using the Visual Studio Wizard. The second one shows how to use VPL. More are coming. Keep watching at: MSRobotics on YouTube,” revealed Trevor Taylor, program manager, Microsoft Applied Robotics Solutions.

At this point in time there are a total of four videos on the channel, the first three of which deal with the same topic. Developers looking to give the Microsoft Robotics Developer Studio 2008 a try should know that the software giant is offering the development platform to academic, hobbyist, and commercial developers. The purpose is of course to catalyze an increase in robotics applications being built.

In mid-June 2009, Microsoft made available the R2 version of its robotics development platform. The software giant underlined that it considered R2 an upgrade, and the evolution of the plain vanilla Microsoft Robotics Developer Studio 2008.

Microsoft Robotics Developer Studio 2008 R2 Standard Edition and Microsoft Robotics Developer Studio 2008 R2 Express Edition are available for download here.
