NATO's operations in the Middle East are counterattacked in the online environment

A Pakistany hacker collective known as the Robot Pirates defaced a number of 73 US websites as a form of protest against NATO operations.

No customer data was leaked from the databases, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that the cybercriminals didn’t obtain access to the information.

“We want heads of 24 NATO soldiers in return of our beloved 24 Pakistani Shaheed soldiers,” the hackers wrote in a Pastebin file.

Judging by the list of targeted locations, commercial sites, research centers, medical centers, gambling and eco-friendly websites were taken down.

Most of them are back online, but some still proudly display the image and the message posted by the hackers.

Hopefully, the sites that were restored have also taken the necessary precautions to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
