It's still the same OS that wants to replace Windows by emulating its conditions, so nothing much has changed there.
They say that if you can’t beat them, then join them. In the case of Robolinux, things are a little bit different. The developers provide a way of running Windows applications in a Linux environment. This is done with a sort of Windows clone working pretty much like a virtual machine. You can expect a performance drop and then there is also the unclear matter of its legality.
This is not like Wine, which is a more like a new layer of compatibility for the apps. The StealthVM, the technology that allows this kind of functionality, has been updated constantly and it has yet to attract any attention from Microsoft.
Robolinux 7.8.1 with GNOME is nothing to be excited about
This latest edition powered by GNOME works pretty much like all the previous ones and it even looks the same. It has a GNOME 2 vibe and it's a little overcrowded with apps, but the bottom line is that it's just a new desktop over the same base.
