Robocraft, a free-to-play robot vehicle shooter developed and published by Freejam on Steam, now also has a Linux version.

The new Robocraft is a game made in the vein of the much more famous World Of Tanks, but it's radically different for the users who want to make their own deadly machines. It's described by its makers as an MMO Robot vehicle shooter, and that seems to be a category in itself.

Robocraft is now part of the Early Access Game program on Steam and that means that it's still under development. The devs have said that it will remain like that for another six months, but that shouldn't be a problem because anyone can download the game and play it for free.

Robocraft now has Linux and Mac OS X support

The developers of this new kind of MMO have been building the game since 2013 and the new title was just added to the Steam library. The Linux and Mac OS support arrived shortly after, and this is a good sign regarding the intentions of the developers.

"Build insane Robot Battle Vehicles that drive, hover and fly; add weapons from the future and jump in the driving seat as you take them into battle in a team based capture the base Free-to-Win MMO."

"Build a futuristic robo vehicle from Cubes, add Wheels, Thrusters, Hoverblades, Wings, and Plasma Cannons, jump in the Pilot seat of your Robot and drive it into battle in Jet Cars, Tanks, Flying Warships, anything you can dream up, and battle online in massively multiplayer mayhem against users from all over the world," say the developers from Freejam.

The players will have access to 100 cubes and components to collect and combine to make a million different Robot designs, the enemies will be destroyed cube by cube, gamers will be able to form Platoons and battle on the same team, and Robocraft is a free-to-win game.

When people hear about free-to-play, they understand that there might be some hidden costs somewhere, and that is true in most cases. Robocraft, on the other hand, provides everything required to get to the very top of the tree for free, which means that the developers will make money from other sources, like cool hats for example.

The system requirements for Robocraft are also quite low: Ubuntu 10.10+, 3GHz Intel processor with SSE2 support or equivalent AMD family, 2 GB of RAM, a shader model 3.0 Compatible GPU, and 1 GB of available HDD space.

Enjoy!
