The “RoboCop” remake that movie buffs have been more or less raving about for months is out of the race for next summer’s biggest action release. Sony has just confirmed it has been pushed back by half a year.

Confirmation of this comes from The Huffington Post, which notes that “RoboCop” won’t come out on August 9, 2013 as initially planned, but on February 7, 2014.

That’s not the only change Sony has made: since the August spot is now open, the movie studio will release “Elysium” instead, a film by Neill Blomkamp with Matt Damon as lead. It was originally scheduled for release on March 14, 2013.

While Sony has offered no explanation for the switch, The Hollywood Reporter believes it comes from purely practical reasons: the 6-month gap will allow the studio to finish special effects in due time, by very high standards.

“RoboCop” stars Joel Kinnaman as lead, Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Abbie Cornish, Samuel L. Jackson, Jackie Earle Haley and Marianne Jean-Baptiste.

Above is the first look at RoboCop’s awesome ride that obviously matches his suit.
