It's hard to decide which is more exciting: the fact that “Mrs. Doubtfire” is getting a sequel after all these years, or that fact that Robin Williams, the man who brought the character to life in the original, has agreed to make a return to the role.

The Hollywood Reporter is claiming that the movie is well on its way already, after having tapped “Elf” writer David Berenbaum for the script and Chris Columbus as a director, not to mention Robin Williams in the lead role.

The original comedy that came out in 1993 and went on to be a box office smash, earning well over four hundred million dollars all over the world. In the film, Robin Williams plays an out-of-luck actor who disguises himself as a Scottish nanny, Euphegenia Doubtfire, to be closer to his children that now live with his divorced wife.

Unbeknown to many, the sequel has been in the works since 2001, but it slowly died after several versions of the script were rejected. It's also been speculated that the state of lethargy and insecurity was also due to Columbus and Williams, who weren't enthused by the idea of a sequel.

Now, it seems that they have finally found a script that they agreed to do and, while the movie isn't yet a certainty, both the actor and the director have signed on to the sequel which was, up until now, the biggest setback in the process.
